Respect not in words but in action –
II
"Ladki hai bahar mat niklo , Samay par Ghar Aaja , yeh mat Karo who
mat karo, dhaang se bheto…" these are the things girls are taught from very
teenage. Do you think the same is taught to boys?
As we say that Charity beings from home, the same way if we respect a
mother, a sister, a daughter at home the same should be followed in society, as
we have learned or heard that children learn from the surrounding, the
way we behave in front of our kids they will behave the same.
Giving an example, once I was traveling in public transport where I
saw a 6-year-old kid holding a book and reading it, I was very shocked and I
asked the mother of a kid, in today’s century of technology kids don’t prefer
books they love to play games on mobile, how come your kid is reading a book,
the lady replied that children learn from the surrounding, so we never take
mobiles or laptops in front of our kids we prefer reading books, playing
outdoor games, this is the way he is not used to technology much.
Coming back to the point, India is the top country where crime rates against women are at high; especially the dowry death rates are high.
Nation Crime Report Bureau says that daily 5 women are tolerating
the physical and mental abuse in the hands of the husband and
relatives, out of 2
women are losing their lives daily.
In ancient times the law was oral so the punishments were simply limited
up to fines. As soon as the law came in written form the punishments became
stricter.
Looking at the increasing rates of crime against married women, the
Indian Constitution enacted the Protection of Women from Domestic
Violence Act, which came into force on 26th October 2006.
The act was made to empower and protect married women against unwanted
demands of dowry and physical and mental abuse in the hands of husband and
relatives.
Indian Penal Code has a separate section which deals with such
offenses, Section 498A which says that husband or relatives of
husband(Blood relations) who misbehave or mistreats the husband shall
be punished with imprisonment of 3 years or fine or both. Whereas the section
says there is no limitation for filing a case of 498a, but it should not be
taken at ease that a wife can lodge a complaint anytime, she can file a
complaint within 3 years of the incident that happened.
According to the report, 9 cases out of 10 are reported about dowry
cases. Indian laws are too sensitive towards women, and therefore section 498A
was enacted to protect married women to have a safe and equal place in the
matrimonial home. Dowry process is very old in India but excess demands have
created mental and physical harm to the woman.
Section 498A says that the wife can go and launch a
complaint against the husband and relatives in the nearest police station; she
can also take the help of the women cell to file a complaint. If needed she can
concern a learned lawyer and take his/her advice.
Indian constitution added section 498A to Indian Penal code to protect
women from domestic violence.
Remember women are the most beautiful creation of God, and
respecting her is not only our duty but also our foremost responsibility
towards God. Respect her at home and automatically she will be respected in
society, in the nation and also in the world.
